Falcon 1 Maiden Flight Update
We had a successful liftoff and Falcon made it well clear of the launch pad, but unfortunately the vehicle was lost later in the first stage burn. More information will be posted once we have had time to analyze the problem.

About this email

Musk's two-sentence notice minutes after the first Falcon 1 flight: the rocket cleared the pad but was lost during the first stage burn, with analysis to follow.

Notes

NASA Watch: 'The following Statement was posted on the SpaceX website by Elon Musk', under the heading 'Falcon 1 Maiden Flight Update: Posted March 24, 2006 3:00 pm'. Spaceflight Now and NASASpaceFlight print the same two sentences. A missing space in the reader output ('thefirst') was restored. Text was retrieved through a page reader, so punctuation and paragraph breaks may differ slightly from the original page.
