Excerpt. Only this much of the email has been made public.

The more senior you are, the more visible must be your presence. That is why I spent so much time in the factory — so that those on the line could see me working alongside them.

About this email

In a memo paralleling the one sent to Tesla staff the same night, Musk told SpaceX employees they must spend at least 40 hours a week in the office and said senior staff in particular need to be visibly present.

Notes

The SpaceX version was obtained by The New York Times (not retrievable in this session); only this passage of the SpaceX email was quoted in accessible coverage. The fuller Tesla emails of the same night ('Remote work is no longer acceptable', 'To be super clear') belong to the Tesla slice.
